Comic books are changing a little, aren't they?
MArvel and Disney a few weeks ago (I'm waiting to see what happens) and now Paul Levitz stepping down and the whole restructuring of DC Comics which might have consequences before the Marvel/Disney thing. I don't know all that much because I'm too lazy to look it up right now (listening to Legion of Substitute Podcasters) and this might change things.
Do I like change? I don't know.
With a likelihood of 25% I'll be able to use a Watchmen quote in my history orals. Well, it's not a Watchmen quote as much as a quote by JFK used by Alan Moore in Watchmen but I won't be too picky :D
those fucking traitors are making it impossible for me to watch watchmen anytime soon becasue they don't seem to think that there are people like me who can only watch the movie in english because they are fucking crazy purists and there aren't many like me. so there's no fucking theater showing watchmen yet which is pissing me off to an extent that I don't even want to get into because I was so psyched to see it and now I'll have to wait or give in to watching it in german which i won't do because that would just be rape and I'm too psyched about it to let that ruin the experience.

i'm incredibly pissed off and hate everyone right now, so ... yeah.
After being slightly embarrassed about it for a while, I admit now that I saw the Watchmen trailer. And I admit that I got wet. And I still know I might not like the movie but the trailer just made me long to see it. Over and over again. And it's completely normal to get that excited about a trailer, or so I tell myself. The panels. Come to life. How could that not ...?
I've been frantically waiting for an email I know I won't receive today for at least one minute now. I need that email. I need, need, need it. And I don't want to wait. And I could have been waiting a lot longer and made the chances of getting it so much higher by actually checking my mail more often instead of talking about Watchmen.

I need that email. No, I'm not overreacting at all. I jsut need it. If I don't get it, my ego might die. and I don't want that. I want that email. now.

What kind of boobs do you have? that's not normal, no matter what people tell you, Batwoman, you need to get them checked. Thed don't look healthy at all. And your hair and skin don't look too good either.

I just read issue #7 of Final Crisis. I have no fucking idea what happened. I need CGS to record an episode where Murd explains what the hell happened. I mean, that's not the point of comics, right? Grrr ... Those drugs aren't working too well for Grant Morrison.

I'm really annoyed by my flu and I feel like cuddling but as usual don't have anyone to cuddle with. All I get these days is virtual cuddling which is better than nothing.

Math is driving me about as crazy as Final Crisis.

This is awesome. So many things from the comics are in there and that makes me giddy. I really can't decide it I'm anticipating or dreading the release of the movie.

Fables

Dec. 9th, 2008 11:59 pm
OMG! ABC is working on a Fables TV series which would be just so amazing if done right. I don't think you can do a direct adaptation but it's just perfect to think that it will be cast just perfectly and written by the perfect writers who get what is so great about Fables and can pull it off. Great news.
I have just noticed that I haven't seen a worrying number of my geek shirts lately and I'm worried about them which is why I feel the need to make a list so I can see which ones are in my closet and look for the others. I know I forgot some on the list. I'm thinking of a dark blue shirt in particular (not the Super Buddies one) but I can't think what's on it.

T-SHIRTS
- Hulk
- Wonder Woman insigmia
- Ditko Spider-Man
- Wolverine
- other Spider-Man
- Superman insigmia
- Batman insigmia
- Avengers
- Joker
- Wonder Woman
- Super Buddies
- Pebbles
- Jedi Academy
- Lost
- black JKG
- red JKG
- grey DSV
- white DSV
- DSV sweatshirt
- Harry Potter
- Hogwarts
- 4 Chiclete t-shirts
- Mickey Mouse
- Cambodia
- 4 Hard Rock t-shirts, 1 sweatshirt, 1 jeans jacket, 1 other
- Ampelmännchen
- DSV jacket
- Snoopy

UNDERWEAR
- Superman insigmia
- red Wonder Woman
- blue Wonder Woman

The only thing I've found so far are the red WW panties (and a questionable pair of panties with the Playboy logo on them that do so NOT belong to me).

Okay, I admit it, I've found quite a few of the items in question but not all of them and some might be dirty but I haven't worn many of them in ages so where the hell are they?
And I'm sure I didn't put quite a few things on the list. I will investigate. I have now decided that I'll do much better in my math exam tomorrow if I can dress in either the WW or Superman ensemble. Unfortunately, both parts of those are missing right now.

EDIT: Half an hour later and more items have been accounted for, among them the blue Snoopy shirt that might be the one I was thinking about but couldn't remember. And while I might have seen the missing WW shirt in the laundry and found the S-shield shirt, the underwear is still missing. I need to find either the Superman or the WW underwear (not the red one) for tomorrow, preferably the Superman one.

a) I don't like Mark Guggenheim.
b) I don't feel like I should have to explain my aversion.
c) I love Green Lantern, especially when Geoff Johns has done with him.

Ryan Gosling? Take a look at Hal Jordan. Then take a look at Ryan Gosling = no similarities AT ALL!!
What the hell happened to Terence Howard?
I just saw on Newsarama that he will be replaced in the Iron Man sequel and that Don CheDadle will be James "Rhodey" Rhodes instead. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Don Cheadle and he's a fantastic actor but I liked Terence Howard as Rhodey and I want to know why he won't be in the sequel. I had read in an interview earlier this year that he was so excited about putting on the armor himself at some point but that he wanted it to progress naturally and now he's out? What happened?

(I'm going to read the article now).

Financial differences? Please! It would seem to me that Howard would be less expensive than Cheadle. Cheadle is awesome though, I don't want to slight him in any way, I'm just surprised, that's all. His Rhodey will be a lot different for sure. Older, wiser. They'll both have to be very, very patient though, so one thing the guys share. It's hard to picture the change but at least it's someone I like.

I don't want to complain about actor changes, after all Maggie Gyllenhall was perfect in The Dark Knight and sooo much better than Katie Holmes but they looked similar. Cheadle and Howard ... not so much. I want to see what they do and how they plan to do it.

In other movie news. Have they finally confirmed who Dwayne Johnson will be playing in the Shazam! movie should that ever be greenlit? I'd love to see him as Black Adam. He's just the perfect choice and I'm not even a fan of The Rock. he just looks like Black Adam. And is the Superman franchise dead?

DCBS

Oct. 11th, 2008 02:28 am
I always, always, always pictured Kev as a guy who would get his comics sent to him twice a month and in my notes for the Misfits I had a running joke about Kev always getting his shipment on time, no matter where he is. And in those same notes, it says he's a DCBS customer. There has never been a different option but I wasn't sure if I could just have Kev actually state that he got his shipments from DCBS and if I couldn't, then I'd not be able to have the place he gets his comics from named because I didn't want to come up with a fictional company do it and I'm a DCBS girl which means that I know the name of the guy who runs the business, that's it's family-owned and that it's awesome. And it sponsors some of my favorite podcasts but it was Bryan Deemer's enthusiastic "this episode is sponsored by"-speeched that made me subconsciously a DCBS fan because I never actually realized that when I came up with the idea of Kev's shipments that find him wherever he is that I attributed it to DCBS. And I wanted Kev to reference DCBS and its sister-site In Stock Trades. So, I wrote to  Cameron who the CGS guys always say is a really nice guy and asked him for his permission. And I got it; he was really nice about it! That makes me happy because I know that if I lived in the States, I'd be a DCBS customer. And if I can't be, Kev has to be instead.

Who else should I write to?
42nd Street: Women's breasts draped across every billboard, every display, littering the sidewalk. Was offered Swedish love and French love, but not American love. American love; like coke in green glass bottles, they don't make it anymore.

This is from Alan Moore's Watchmen and I just found it today when looking for something totally different. It's from Rorschach's journal and he writes in a way that conveys no emotion because I'm not sure he is able to convey them anymore. But this is just such a fantastic quote that says so much about Rorschach and about so many other things as well. I love it.

Avengers

Sep. 30th, 2008 08:40 pm
Wow, Marvel is really turning the Avengers into something really, really big. The Avengers were a team that was always there and many people didn't pay too much attention to the title. It was one title, okay, at one point, there were actually two. And then Bendis came along and disassembled Marvel's premiere superhero team, put them back together in New Avengers, divided the team into two groups after Civil Was adding the title Mighty Avengers and Dan Slott introduced us to Avengers: The Initiative. There, we had three Avengers titles, all of which are awesome and really laid the groundwork for Secret Invasion.

And now, Bendis will be leaving Mighty Avengers, the group that currently includes the registered heroes, with Dan Slott taking over. But Bendis is not leaving the Avengers universe. Instead, yet another title will be added to the line, Dark Avengers. I honestly think that the Avengers have been expanding faster than any other franchise right now, be it at Marvel or DC.

In the past, everyone was reading X-Men, now it seems that everyone is reading Avengers.

And they are keeping whatever the status quo of the Marvel U is going to be after Secret Invasion to themselves or at least I haven't heard about it, not being on Newsarama that often anymore because I hate the new layout. What the hell is Dark Reign? The next event? I have no idea. And who is to blame? Newsarama's fucking new layout.
[Error: unknown template qotd]I'm torn.

Was Heath's performance absolutely amazing? Yes. Did it blow my mind? Most definetely. But was it the best performance in the movie? Not necessarily. I am torn between Ledger and Aaron Eckhart who was perfect, and I feel that this was Eckhart's movie. Had Ledger not died, he would most certainly have been praised for his portrayal of my favorite Batman villain but I think Eckhart's performance is overshadowed by Ledger's death. I haven't seen the spotlight on him and he is so great in the movie. While every other character stays more or less the same, Eckhart's Harvey Dent evolves gradually and in a believable way that has you watching with disbelief.

But then again, Ledger steals the scene once he shows up. His Joker is creepy, you know he's not Jack Napier, some lame thug. I attribute the fact that he is scary and unpredicatable to the fact that he has no origin like the other heroes and villains and therefore you don't know how he ticks but that isn't anything new. "If I have an origin, I prefer it to be multiple choice" is from Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's "The Killing Joke".

Ledger's performance shines but I can't stand the hype. Would there be such an unanimous outcry for him to be awarded an Academy Award had he not died a couple of years back? I don't think so. I hate the thought that he should get an Oscar simply because it is dead and because it would "legitimize the comic book movie genre" as I have heard people say. But I'm not of the mindeset that someone who is still alive should necessarily be awarded the award, either. I'd like to see the other performances this year to them make up my mind. That being said, I don't think that Ledger is a bad contender. Overall, his lifework is very interestind and he didn't choose to do a movie only because he needed money; he was selective and I always appreciate that.

This is a short explanation why I'm not sure if I'd prefer Ledger or Eckhart to be nominated but should either of them be nominated, they would both deserve it. But, let's face it, if anyone starring in "The Dark Knight" is nominated, it will be Heath Ledger.
The trailer is AMAZiNG. I can't fucking wait another year for this movie that looks awesome. So true to the source material, so beautiful and full of action. I sat in my chair motionless, my fingernails carved into the table in front of me, mouth wide open. Oh my fucking God, this will be amazing.

I disliked 300 because it was too much of a fight without a plot but this looks so fucking beautiful. I can't wait to see it.

The costumes that I thought looked corny? I changed my mind. It looks as if the characters had jumped right out of the page. I was very close to a fangasm. The last time I had one of those was when I heard about the plans for Marvel Studios and of course during The Dark Knight.

I need to see this again and again and again. BTW, I saw the X-Men Origins: Wolverine trailer and I wasn't half as thrilled by that as I am by this Watchmen trailer and I complained about it in the beginning because I disliked 300 and because the casting didn't seem right. I still think Ozymandias has too be taller and more handsome but the Comedian and Rorschach ... spot on.

Juni raus.

Sie haetten "Who watches the Watchmen?" nicht ganz zeigen duerfen.

Where is the praise for Aaron Eckhart?

I hate critiquing a movie in one take because I have to think about everything and so I can't focus on one thing in particular which is why I'll do it in many parts unless I get bored of it before I'm done.

Everything I had heard about the movie as of now was how awesome it was. I was almost annoyed at the amount of praise Heath Ledger was getting. His performance is stellar but I think that people who see the movie focus on him because he is dead. Would ha have been this universally praised had he not died?

Don't get me wrong, I loved it but I feel that I should have heard many more people saying how fantastic Arron Eckhart was as Harvey "Two-Face" Dent. He did an amazing job. I understand that he doesn't need as much critical praise or attention as Ledger because although he is a fantastic actor as well, he is alive and well and will do many more projects while this was the end of Ledger's very interesting career that ended after his death.

I was amazed at Eckhart's performance. He starts out as a cocky, ambitious man, a rival to Bruce Wayne in the affection of Rachel Dawes. He cares about her more than anything and the scene where he keeps telling her that they will get her and not him is simply incredible as is his descent into madness that I followed in awe. It was totally believable that he was so much in love with Rachel that it would send him over the edge.

I had not expected Harvey or Two-Face to be featured this heavily in this movie; I thought they were setting him up for the villain in the next part (I strayed away from spoilers or trailers or just about anything; in fact, I almost missed that Heath Ledger had died in doing so) and I loved it. I loved that not Batman was the better man but Harvey and that the Joker saw that and therefore decided to break him.

It shows that not everything in Gotham is about Batman. That Batman is simply a part of Gotham, her self-declared defender. But he isn't the only one. There are others like Jim Gordon and Harvey Dent and Harvey was the most ambitious, idealistic and this is why he was so dangerous when he went over the edge.

I enjoyed the idea that he didn't leave anything up to fate, making his own luck by tossing a two-faced coin and contiuing to use it but due to the lack of reason, the chance that factors into anything, he decides that everything is about fate and he can't do anything about it. I don't think it's exactly like this in Two-Face's actual origin but I loved it and how it was integrated into the movie instead of having an origin movie for it. It was fitted into the storyline in a fantastic, admirable way.

I enjoyed the portrayal of Dent as Gotham's ultimate hero and his legacy having to live on by all  means necessary, something both Gordon and Batman realize. And if that means making sacrifices, then that's how it will be done...
