Kev Darren was a changed man; you only had to take one look at the dark-haired man to know that. He moved with a certain air of confidence that hadn't been there before and it wasn't because he had hung up the leather jacket he had worn less than a year ago, choosing the casual business look of jeans and a button-down shirt with its two upper buttons left open and a blazer. The wardrobe had changed but his hair that was above shoulder length still framed his face with the miscievous grin and his worn-out shoes confirmed that it was really him.
A year ago, Kev had been a calm young man in his late teens or early twenties. That hadn't changed. The leather jacket that had been one of his trademarks hadn't been given up, it was at home waiting for him to get back from work and put it on. He was the same man he had been when his friends had last seen him, but there was something about him that had changed and they couldn't quite place it.
It could be his environment. He was working for Ahmik Bishop, business man par exelance, who turned everything he touched into gold and with this job, Kev had gotten to know a different crowd of people whose manners and ettiquette could not be compared to the lack thereof demonstrated by Kev's former co-workers who were outcasts from society.
They didn't know but this wasn't the first time Kev had been involved in such a big transformation in his life while essentially staying the same. It was something that had defined his life from early on. He had learned to quickly adapt to what he was given, afraid that he might not be able to live in this world for long before being pulled out and into something new again.
Whenever the quiet young man looked into his past, the eighteen years he had been alive now, he saw himself in a world he didn't think he could live in now. Yes, he was the personal assistant to Bishop now, had a luxurious apartment in New York City and had an impressive education but he was still the happy child with a nice family, the seven year old orphan, the teenage street urchin in a big city, the boy taken in by a wealthy couple, the killer at the miliary base in Maine, the disturbed young man in the mental institution, and the covert ops agent. In his short life, Kev Darren had been so many different things and whenever he looked back, he thought it was impossible that all of this had happened to him; that he had lived in so many different worlds but at the same time he knew that this was what defined him.
