more music drabbles
Jun. 27th, 2008 08:34 pmInstead of taking a character and going with them, I decided to do it differently this evening: I want to write one about each of the very first Misfits characters. I might expand on it seeing that Dia, Shirley, Shania, Hobbie, Lara and many others are not on the list because they weren't founding members. So, I'm doing five drabbles today and hope to do for
31_days because today's prompt is great. Tomorrow, I'm doing the remaining six.
And yes, I'm writing lots of drabbles right now and it's really fun. I decided who would be where on the list before seeing what songs would play.

1. Dennis Lawson: Goo Goo Dolls - Iris
Saying that it was pleasant to watch his best friend's wife from afar as she laughed with Joseph would be a lie. It wasn't that he didn't enjoy seeing her -- she was so beautiful that no man could have claimed not to enjoy looking at her -- the problem was that she was with Joseph.
Stella wasn't a nice woman, not when you dug deep enough. And he knew that the information he withheld from Joseph about his wife would devastate him. Others might not understand, but he was protecting his friend and he knew that while he kept an eye on
Stella, she wouldn't do anything.
She knew that he knew those things about her nobody else did and that was what made him so unsympathetic to her explaining their apparent rivalry.
They didn't agree on much; their working methods were similar but that was about it. Joseph had once asked what it was that kept them from working well together but they had both dodged the question. After all, Dennis reasoned, you couldn't just tell your best friend his wife was a bitch. Not if you wanted to remain this person's best friend.
2. "Face" Ramsey: Jimmy Eat World - Pain
"Anyone can be famous," Face tried to reason with Jasmine. "You only have to know how to sell yourself and be attractive. You can be totally stupid and still be famous in this society."
"That's not true. You know it. There are intelligent people."
"They are the minority." Face had spent quite some time trying to convince Jasmine to let go of her growing interest in Eric Lorraine, a movie star who had gone missing a few years back. There was no man that made Face hurt more when he looked at him but Jasmine just wouldn't understand and he could never tell her.
3. Tyler Park: Peter Bradley Adams - Unreconciled
"We have always been so tight," Colleen sighed. "But there is something between us, a wedge, and I don't understand what happened."
"I was in a bad relationship. I don't want to talk about it." Tyler looked at her older sister and it hurt to lie to her but she had to. She had to protect her sister and herself from the truth about what she had experienced. "My heart was broken."
Colleen shook her head. "I don't think the problem is that simple, Ty. You shy away from Kenneth's touch; you haven't tried hitting on that hot cowboy ... That's not you."
"It is. I'm not who I were as a teen." Tyler had changed before the incident, back when she had been in Africa she had put a stop to pursuing men but she knew what Colleen was talking about was something different, something bigger. She looked to the floor. "Listen, Colleen, I really don't want to talk about it, no matter how often you try to make me. It's better if you forget this subject exists because if you keep bugging me, it will eventually cause a fight and that's the last thing either of us wants."
4. Jasmine Atton: Vertical Horizon - Inside
Jasmine didn't really fit in amongst these outcasts and she knew it. She was a part of society and it was hard to live with these individuals. At least that's the impression she had when first moving into the compact. It took her several weeks to realize that the others -- or at least most of them -- were normal but misunderstood, that they had a lot in common with her. They all loved what they did and were dedicated to it and that made society unsure about them. That was all. She could just as easily fit into this category; she just hadn't understood it.
That didn't mean that she was comfortable around everyone. One person that disturbed her more than anyone else was Doctor Tom Brennan who shared her interest in medicine but his views were too unethical, something he admitted. His tales of how he gruesomely killed someone on the operation table were not something Jasmine wanted to hear because it showed her how macabre this society was not to punish this man. And what did that say about her whose deepest desire was to be part of such a society?
5. Stella West-Barnes: Vertical Horizon - Give You Back
"Was it real?"
"What are you talking about?"
"What we had. Was it real?"
"We had agreed not to talk about it."
"I know. But I need to know. We're back to working together and for some reason I think about it sometimes. Was is just the sex or was there more to it."
"It doesn't matter. It was so long ago."
"But that doesn't change that it is part of who I am today."
"You're married to my best friend, Star. You can never talk about it."
"Look, I know all of this, but I need to know if you cared for me. I need to know. I need to understand your motivation. Were you trying to get the upper hand on the job, have something you could blackmail me with at some point?"
"You always think the worst of a person, don't you?"
"I need to bury it if I want to work with you."
"And do to it you need to revisit it?
