NaNoWriMo 2008
Sep. 9th, 2008 09:56 pmOkay, I'm considering this year's NaNoWriMo plot. Yes, I know it's early but I had an idea that is very much inspired by real life events (art imitates life) but while (possibly) stoned, I had two other great ideas that are very much light-hearted and enjoyable and that I think will be very fun to write. I have most likely settled on a coming of age story though because I've never written that. Of course, with the usual twists that include making my main character very nerdy and likable (in fact, that's all I have). I have written a few lines:
cliché geek love story. totally cliché. a bit like Slam with Tony Hawk being replaced by utter geekiness. fun coming of age story. just fun, really.
Yes, that's all I have but I like the idea. Why shouldn't I give it a try? I have once tried to write something like this but it was very different and I think that now I could write it. Also, because there is no Misfits/Cruel connection, it's easy on the mythology and there are no crossovers of any form which means that it is just a fun tale with a geeky character. I would really love to do that for NaNoWriMo because there is the possibility of writing typical stream of conciousness monologues and it would be so, so much fun. Of course, I'd have to flesh it out but I have two months left and I don't need much of an outline because as much as I could overhype it, it is just a coming of age tale and there is not too much about them. It's a boy meets girl story. Fun, light-hearted, with a happy ending. No conspiracy plots, just teens. What Cruel could have been (nah, not really).
The second of the three plotlines I have is also very vague but also geekish:
two nerds in high school when it was embarrassing to admit that you collected comics and played D&D.
Years later, the superhero hype changes their world when all of a sudden everyone seems to want to know why Captain America never teams up with Batman and how come Spider-Man isn't dating MJ these days.
Also very vague. My worry about this one is how quickly it would become dated because of course, it is inspired by the recent superhero hype. But here, geekdom would be more the plot than just a very strong facade of the characters and all in all, I don't like writing dated stuff (note that even when writing this --I was at least a bit stoned because my handwriting goes cursive and back to normal-- I managed to make a reference to Brand New Day).
The third plot line (actually, it's the first) is also very generic but I won't reveal it here because that one is a little more specific in what I have thought about. So, I'm probably going to go with the cliché coming of age story. But I might change my mind very often till November. I might get out my "Wanted" characters that have been waiting to be written for a long time now. I might create a totally new premise. I have no idea.
