Things couldn’t be better for Hobbie right now.
Notes: This takes place in an alternate future where Wes did get married to Shirley after he accidentally proposed to her shortly before drinking / sacrifice.
This was supposed to be a one-shot but the plot got out of hand and now demands to be written in its entirety, so here’s part one of a longer AU story with 14 parts.

The alarm clock rang at 7.30am and even before Hobbie could make an effort to reach for it, he heard it being flung against the wall but was too lazy to complain. He smiled sleepily as he felt strong arms wrap themselves around him but didn’t open his eyes. He had been awake for a while now, his inner clock having woken him on time just like it always did.

“Go back to sleep,” a voice, husky from sleep, whispered into his ear. “It’s too early to get up on a Saturday. Let’s just stay in bed all day.”

“I’m sure Vince would love that,” Hobbie chuckled as the arms pulled him closer his bare back pressed to the other man’s torso. “He complains about us having too much sex as it is already and we wanted to go to the movies with the kids today, Shane. Remember?”

“We can do that tomorrow. I think we need to stay in bed all day.” He planted soft kissed along Hobbie’s slightly freckled shoulders, hoping to keep his lover in bed longer.

“We’re not on our honeymoon or teenagers; we don’t get to stay in bed all day anymore.”

“Honeymoon,” Shane repeated longingly, his face between Hobbie’s shoulder blades on a spot Hobbie was a bit ticklish at. “We sure could use another honeymoon.”

“We’re not even married and even that hasn’t kept us from already having more than one honeymoon. Let’s not exaggerate.”

Hobbie rolled around without pulling out of Shane’s embrace so he could look into the other man’s grey eyes, resting his forehead on Shane’s and placing one hand on Shane’s neck so he could get a grip at man’s brown hair, tugging at it lightly.

“Can we have a honeymoon if we get married?” Shane asked, running one of his hands absently up and down Hobbie’s bare back.

“Sure we can,” Hobbie laughed, not taking the suggestion very serious. “But do you really think that getting married is such a good idea? We’ve been doing perfectly fine not being married for seven years now. Why should we change that? You don’t have a good track record with marriages, so I wouldn’t want to ruin this by marrying you.” He placed a lofty kiss on Shane’s lips.

“You’re different,” Shane insisted. “Never got married to a guy before and don’t think I’d find another I’d want to get married to.” His hand that had been wandering lower and lower came to rest on Hobbie’s bum and Shane flashed him a lopsided grin. “Besides, if we get married, you’ll officially be my bitch.”

“Now that’s tempting,” Hobbie smirked. “You’re serious about this, aren’t you?”

“Yeah,” Shane drawled. “Want me to get down to one knee and do it right?”

“No need to, you know the answer.” He pulled Shane’s face closer, kissing him fiercely until they were both out of breath.

“Dad, Shane, are you having sex or can I come in?” Vincent’s voice interrupted the men’s post-coitus cuddling through the closed door.

“Come in, Vince,” Hobbie called back. “We’re decent.”

“Are you ever?” Hobbie’s teenage son asked when he opened the door to see his father and his father’s boyfriend snuggling in bed. He didn’t mind the fact that his father had a more than healthy sex life and had never felt resentful towards Shane for breaking up his parents’ relationship.

“True,” Shane laughed. “Be a dear and get your dad and me some underwear.”

“I’m the only teenager who ever has to do that sort of stuff,” Vincent mock-complained as he walked over to the closet and tossed the men on the bed a pair of boxers and a pair of boxer briefs, keeping his back turned to them while they put them on.

“You’re also the only teenager who has a dad as hot as Michael,” Shane pointed out. “And you always freak when you see me naked, otherwise I’d walk through the house naked all day.”

“I’d stop coming here if you did that,” Vincent warned Shane, turning around.

“We have news to break to you,” Shane said in a cheery voice.

Vincent sat on the bed where Hobbie and Shane had sat up and were now exchanging slightly nervous looks. The last time this had happened they had announced that they were thinking about adopting a child which had led to the inclusion of Kenzie, his now three year old sister.

“Am I getting another sibling?” Vincent guessed to see if that helped his father. Hobbie still felt slightly guilty for leaving Isobel for Shane all those years ago even though Vincent had told him repeatedly that he liked things a lot better the way they were now. Back then, Isobel and Hobbie had agreed that each of them should get to spend equal time with Vincent, their past partnership making a friendship after the break-up possible. In the past two years however, Vincent had started spending more and more time at his father’s house just because it felt so much more like home, like family.

Shane shook his head. “Nice guess, but no although I guess we could look into adopting again sometime in the future.”

“Will you take one step after the other?” Hobbie shot at him, boxing him in the ribs playfully before he turned to Vincent. “Shane’s planning to make an honest man out of me.”

Vincent looked at the men, his mouth agape. “That’s awesome,” he finally managed, hugging his father, then Shane. “Have you discussed the most important details yet?”

“Yeah,” Shane nodded, a broad grin on his face. “The honeymoon’s gonna last forever.”

“Eww, too much information, man.” Vincent pulled back slightly, making noises as if going to puke. “I’m talking about who’s taking whose name.”

Hobbie and Shane looked at each other amused. They hadn’t thought about that yet; this was something only Vincent would think of immediately.

“Michael’s my bitch, he should take my name,” Shane said decisively.

“I’m so not doing that,” Hobbie protested. “I’m not walking through this world as Derek Michael Doyle. I might as well go out and have my name legally changed to Sparkling Diamond.”

Vincent doubled over laughing while Shane looked at Hobbie in confusion, cursing his lover for his college education, something that Shane had never had.

“DMD stands for diamond,” Vincent explained through fits of laughter. “Maybe you should go with it, dad. Sparkling Diamond sounds disco.”

Now clued in, Shane laughed too.

“And that’s exactly what I’m going for,” Hobbie snickered. “You’d of course have to change your name to Sparkling Diamond, jr. if I went through with it. You know that, right?”

“Kenzie would actually like that,” Shane laughed. “Sparkling Diamond … That doesn’t sound too bad.”

“You call me that once and we’re canceling the honeymoon,” Hobbie threatened.
