Universe: Cruel To Be Kind AU.
Characters: Kev, Janna.
Genre: Romance.
Language: English.
Date: 12. Oktober 2006.
Word Count: 767.

“Jay, can we talk” was the clumsy way Kev approached her.

Janna, a sixteen year old high school student with brown hair and a lot of family problems, looked up when she heard the voice she was so used to. She would have preferred not to have to talk to him, but there was no way she could avoid it, if she didn’t give in to him now, he would find her later, there was no chance of escaping.

She muttered a few words towards her boyfriend, stood up and followed Kev, who started walking away when he saw that she had decided to come along.

They found a corner that wasn’t too busy, in fact nobody was around, other girls would probably have gotten exited, being alone with a man as handsome as Kev, but Janna just didn’t care -- at least she pretended not to.

“You decided to stop avoiding me, huh?” He seemed a bit amused, but then again, he always looked that way, the devious sparkle in his green eyes was what made him attractive, Janna thought.

No, of course she didn’t think that, after all, he was her teacher. How embarrassing was it to think that a teacher was attractive, even if he was a good friend of the family?

“That way I’ll get rid of you sooner,” she told him.

“You think so? You’ll never get rid of me, you know that.”

“Hey, I can hope, can’t I?” She looked up to him, her eyes showing that she was willing to get into a fight with him if necessary. “So, what is it you want to talk about?”

“Isn’t that pretty obvious, Jay?”

Oh yes, it is. I just don’t want to talk about it and you know that.

“You and him, that’s bugging me.”

“What’s wrong about Jack?” Now he was going a bit too far. He had been the one who had told her to get over that stupid crush and pursue a serious relationship with a boy she could be with instead of getting into embarrassing situations he was involved in. So, why should he be against her relationship with Jack?

“Dad told you to talk to me about this?” Janna asked. “I know he doesn’t like Jack, thinks he’s too uptight for me, that I need someone who is at ease with himself.”

“This has nothing to do with your father, it’s just between you and me. It sounds weird, I know, but I don’t see why you are with him of all people. I mean, what does he have? He may be cute, even good-looking, but you …” He sighed. “He doesn’t fit in with the guys you were interested in before. You are known for liking wild men who don’t worry and live day by day, not thinking about tomorrow but are still intelligent and have a good taste of music, like reading, but Jack, I just don’t see that in him. He’s so bound to rules and … you know.”

“What is it you want to say, Kev? I don’t have forever to listen to you rambling on about my preference of men, I know about that.”

“Just tell me, Jay, what do you see in him?”

“He’s nice. I like him, he wants me to stay out of trouble which is kind of cute, most of the other guys think that getting into trouble is what makes me appealing, it’s refreshing in a way.”

“Great reasons to start a relationship.” His mocking tone was so evident it made Janna cringe. “Tell me the truth, Jay, do you feel half as much for him as you did for me some time ago?”

It was the first time in months anyone of them mentioned the incident, Janna hadn’t expected it to ever be brought up again.

“It’s not the same. With you, it was infatuation, with him, it’s love.”

She turned and walked away, leaving Kev behind, he didn’t attempt to stop her, he had achieved his goal, she would start to feel doubt towards her feelings about Jack, Kev knew that he was doing her a favour, Jack just wasn’t the guy for her, and why should she waste time with him?

But there was one thing that bothered him: She had lied to him, it had been way more than just infatuation she had felt for him, it had been love, and it still was there. He had really hoped it would go away, he didn’t want her to waste her time on him or Jack, no matter how much he loved her.
