NaNo Day 5
Nov. 5th, 2007 05:46 pmI was totally sure I wouldn't be able to write 1,667 words in about one hour and twenty minutes but the wonderful word warriors at MSN proved me wrong. I did 1,754 words in three word wars. I am on chapter six which is a kind of interlude. Instead of focusing on Demyan or Dona, it tells the story of a girl named Aliya and her quest to be appreciated, be in first place on time in her life, instead of in the shadows of her older sister Mentis.
Writing this, I was like, "Gosh, Nath, this is totally auto-biographical." Mentis is the older daughter, the father's favorite who stays with him even when he starts succumbing to madness, listening to his nonsensical stories. The younger daughter Aliya on the other hand hates that she doesn't get any affection from her father and leaves looking for some other place where she thinks she might find the affection her father never cared about giving her.
I never intended to write it like this but that's how it ended up being and I like it. It's just very weird knowing that my father will read it and he will most likely spot the parallel in this chapter. I am slightly embarrassed by it but I think it's alright. The part I have to consider though is Nestor, Mentis and Aliya's brother, attending her wedding and feeling disgusted by what she has become. That might be too much, but that just came very natural.
Damn it.
Anyway, I have to go. Krista Eichler's Thanksgiving Dinner is waiting.
