"So, you're really leaving, huh?"

Hobbie nodded, his back turned to Wes who was sitting on the bed, watching him while he put on his jacket, ready to leave.

"When are you coming back?"

There was no answer and Wes grew cold as he realized that Hobbie didn't plan on ever returning but he pulled himself together to hide the shock.

"See you in a few weeks then." He said, pretending not to know that this was goodbye for an undetermined amount of time. Hobbie nodded, and left, his suitcase in hand. Wes didn't even get up to see him off, he waited until he was gone to curl up in bed, hugging the pillow and silently sobbing.

I picture Hobbie as someone who sometimes just has to leave.

There is a character, General Franklin Atton, one of the important people at Cerberus who knows Hobbie very well and whose goal it is to force Hobbie into retirement due to the many injuries he has obtained while working at Cerberus. I like to think of it as a recurring threat to have Hobbie removed from the team to put him in charge of something important or to force him to retire. Not because Atton is evil but because he thinks he is helping Hobbie by doing so.

The other reason is simply the fact that it's not easy to live with Wes who is a borderline-nymphomaniac and at the same time very conservative when it comes to his relationship with Hobbie which he wants to keep secret no matter what. And the way I see it, it has to be frustrating not to have the person you care about really accept this relationship.

This, in combination with Atton wanting to interfere in Hobbie's business life, sure makes Hobbie just want to give up on all of this sometimes, no matter how patient he is.

I see. So his leaving is some kind of "closing the door" for a while. I can understand that.
