With quite a few superhero movies being released in the last couple of years, most of them property of Marvel or DC, someone decided that it would be great to cash in on the success of the genre without having to pay a company for the rights of an already existing character and getting a famous, loved actor to play the part.
I fell that this is how "Hancock" was conceived. I also feel that the problem I had with it was the fact that it wasn't based on an already existing character and their story. When you have the groundworks for a character such as Iron Man or Batman, you know what works for them and what doesn't. With Hancock, you're hoping that it'll do well because everybody recognizes Will Smith.
The story is just so incredibly lame. Aliens who come in pairs and get vunerable when they are close? Oh, please, that's just lame. So lame that not even I, an avid comic fan, was interested in it. The movie takes itself too seriously for what feels like a comedy and becomes a tragedy in some instances.
