I'm thinking that my essay for Generations of Holocaust Literature might end up being about Magneto. Yes, the X-Men character.

I made a joke about it because we were told that pop culture dealing with the Holocaust was completely acceptable but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. In my head, I've even decided on what significant stories to use (Grant Morrison's final arc, Pak's Magneto Testament and maybe one or two Claremont bits). And I'll ignore that awful 90s retcon where they tried to make him a gypsy.

At the same time, I don't think I can possibly do this. Right?

You so could and should! It would be an interesting essay to read.

Then again, I started being interested in history and the Holocaust in general due to reading Magneto's backstory when I was a kid. So I'm a bit biased. :)

We had a debate about fiction about the Holocaust and I'm not sure I agree with people doing that but at the same time, it would be intersting to write about Magneto because I don't think I can write about some nonfiction text that creeps me out to no end (Primo Levi).

Once I talk to Fischer about it and if she doesn't veto it, I might end up writing this in February and March. She said pop culture stuff was fine and we're reading comics (well, Maus) in class, so maybe I have a chance.
