Newsarama has a fantastic interview with Ed Brubaker, the man who killed Captain America.
I think that it is very interesting that they are continuing with the Captain America title even though Steve is dead and Brubaker says explicitly, "There won't be anyone running around in a Cap costume in the book for a long time, honestly. This is the start of an epic, and I'm going to let the story unfold at the proper pace. We've got a lot more eyes on us all of a sudden, so I don't want to mess up any detail. The scope here is grand."
Which I really like because there were all these speculations that Bucky, Cap's former sidekick, would take up the mantle of Cap and stop being the Winder Soldier but this would have been a very different Cap because ever since becoming the Winder Soldier, Bucky has become very different, more violent than the teenager he used to be in WWII. ("Bucky was a rough and tumble military brat, not a sensitive artistic skinny kid. So, I wouldn't bet on him taking up a new mask anytime soon. Or liking the idea of anyone else doing it, either.")
And then there was this hint (hopefully a red hering) that Frank Castle, the Punisher, would become the new Captain America as he picks up the mask Steve throws to the floor in the end of the Civil War minis.
The preview pages of Captain America #26 are awesome and there is specially one that is so shocking and unexpected, so it's really worth checking it out. Well, I would do it right away if I didn't live in frickin' Germany where you can't really get comics.
I don't know if I ever reinterated enough on it, but I LOVE Ed Brubaker's writing and his work on Captain America has been very strong from issue one on and now with Cap's death it has received a lot of media coverage and I love that he's not doing it as a media stunt but because he feels that this is just the natural progression of the story.
