I think about Lee Tergesen and Chris Meloni's chemistry every time I turn my computer on because they are my desktop and they are so amazing. There were always hints of sex on Oz and whenever I watch Prison Break, I wonder why there is none of that with the exception of T-Bag but that's something else because T-Bag is more like Schillinger than anything else and I prefer Schillinger because he is soooo evil. Yes, I prefer Oz. It's what I saw first, and such incredible writing can only be continually praised, even years after the series ended. When I first saw Tergesen and Meloni's chemistry, I couldn't stop thinking that I wished Wes and Hobbie could have that much chemistry because I don't see that as often between men.

Weeds ... uhhhh ... I 've seen the first couple of episodes of the forth season and I'm not happy with it. I liked the fun, humorous approach, not this smuggling drugs over the border and police and burning houses down. I was unhappy with the third season after a while, the fire and Nancy burning down the house were bad enough and when I saw this, I thought that it should either stop now or that it was the wrong thing. So, I'm going to watch the season but all in all, I'm not happy with what I've seen till now.

The second season of Gossip GIrl seems cool. There is the Chuck pursuing Blair storyline (I admit that I'm a sucker for Chuck and Blair because they are my kind of couple. They are so awesome). But I dislike Blair's British royalty boyfriend who is boring and whose accent I can't stand. Is he really British? I couldn't find it anywhere but it feels forced.

New series I want to watch: Fringe, True Blood (because of Alan Ball. I don't like the idea of him writing a vampire drama but it's Alan Ball, so I have to give it a try).

Man will ja schliesslich wissen, wo man einzieht.

"Do you smoke?"
"No."
"Sure?"
"Yes."
"I'm not talking cigarettes."
"Oh. Then maybe ... yes."

She really deserved the Oscar for having to look that ugly."

Michael Dawson dies in the forth season finale. Honestly, I'm disappointed. Last summer, there was so much hype about Harold Perrineau coming back to Lost. And then he is in four or so episodes, doesn't get into enough action, has really few scenes and is beat up all the time and then he is blown up and it just disappointed me. They decided to come up with this plot for him where he wanted to die but it just didn't feel right. If he wants to die, the fans have to want him to survive and he has to redeem himself in a greater way. I myself pride myself with not being a Michael hater. He killed Ana Lucia and Libby in season two and I think people were mad at him not because he killed Ana Lucia but because he killed Libby who people liked. There was no closure like there was with Charlie before his death. It was rewarding to see Christian who told him he could go now, but it wasn't enough. Harold Perrineau didn't have the chance to show his full capacities as an actor this season, something I'm saying because I'm coming to appreciate his work even more because I'm watching Oz where he narrates in an interesting and original way and is a character of the show as well. So, I'm kind of upset by his death. I can see that Michael haters will enjoy it but I'm just not a Michael hater and I want to see someone else's reaction.

Perrineau himself isn't too happy about his character being killed off:

TV Guide: Did you know Michael was being killed off when you returned?
Harold Perrineau: I had no idea. It's like, what the hell? I came back for that?

[...]

TV Guide:: And what did you say to that?
Perrineau: At this point, I've been on the island, off the island, back on the island — so I just went, "Oh, ok." [Laughs] This is their show and they know what they can or cannot write. I thought it was disappointing and a waste to come back, only to get beat up a few times and then killed. I felt like it was sort of pandering to some fans who wanted to see Michael punished because he betrayed people.

TV Guide: Are you referring to when he shot and killed Ana Lucia and Libby in Season 2?
Perrineau: Exactly. I honestly feel like Michael's death served a really weird bloodlust for the fans.

TV Guide: Were you disappointed Michael and Walt didn't reconnect before your character died?
Perrineau: Listen, if I'm being really candid, there are all these questions about how they respond to black people on the show. Sayid gets to meet Nadia again, and Desmond and Penny hook up again, but a little black boy and his father hooking up, that wasn't interesting? Instead, Walt just winds up being another fatherless child. It plays into a really big, weird stereotype and, being a black person myself, that wasn't so interesting.

Yesterday, I saw Sex and the City. I hated it to death. I wrote about it but my computer kind of died. Right now, I can't rewrite it because I need to listen to Lost podcasts. I just watched the forth season finale and, wow, it was awesome. I'll be in withdrawl and trying to figure out what to watch next until Lost comes back on. I want to check out other HBO series like The Wire because I have a lot of faith in HBO although they disappointed me with th SatC movie. But they have given me Six Feet Under and Oz (yes, I just mentioned Oz once again).

I have become enamored with the HBO show Oz in the last few weeks for various reasons. I hate that I've already seen two of the six quite short seasons now but I'm really curious to see how it continues. Season two, like season one, was great.

One of my favorite characters, Tobias Beecher has bee put through a lot of shit in season one and in season two, he meets fellow convict Chris Keller who enjoys spending his time with him and seems to like him a bit too much, something Beecher himself notes. Now, as everyone who knows me (wth the exception of Silly who seriously asked me if the reason I didn't like a specific teacher was because he was gay) that this is right up my alley. Boy meets boy.

Of course, Keller has ulterior motives and is working with someone who hates Beecher, something that is shown very early on and even though you know that sooner or later Keller will betray Beecher, it kind of breaks your heart because they are cute together in a very strange way. And although Keller is an asshole in that situation, I really want them to reconcile.

Maybe in season three.

Every once in a while, there are real gems in the narration of Oz by Augustus Hill (Harold Perrineau) that I really enjoy. Here a selection of truths and just awesome narration, not dialogue though, that would be way too much. The bold ones are the best, imho.

Words. Words are weapons. I'd rather have a Mach 10 anytime. Some inmates say that violence is the worst thing we gotta face. For me, the worst thing is the great yawn. How do you fill day after dull ass day? We got these routines that are supposed to give our lives order and meaning. But I'm here to testify that I'm less afraid of getting shanked in my back than the routine. Cause the routine, man, the routine'll kill you.
(101 The Routine)

Sex and death. They're different but the same. To reach that final moment, that climax, you gotta give up control of your body, of your soul. And love? Well, if sex is sweet and death is bitter, love is both. Love will always and forever break your heart.
(102 Visits, Conjugal or Otherwise)

There's some pain that you don't share. Some pain like your fingerprints that's all yours. All alone.
(103 God's Chillin')

And God said let there be light! And there was light. But that's easy for God to say. He was God. But for the rest of us, finding the light takes time. A lifetime.
(103 God's Chillin')

In Oz, sometimes the things you can't touch are more real than the things you can. For instance, fear, hatred, loneliness, are more real to me than a shank. And a soul, every day, can grow into something you can almost hold. How fucked up is that? In a shithole like this, to first and finally see the face of God.
(103 God's Chillin')

It's rare when you say goodbye to someone that you know it's the last time. You can try to say whatever it is you should've said before or you can just hold on tight. Just hold on, hoping the moment will last you a lifetime.
(104 Capital P)

Secrets. We all got secrets. Mostly our secrets are tied to our addictions, our obsessions. You like that bourbon too much? You get off eating chicks with dicks. You gotta do it in hiding. You say you somebody but you really somebody else. Only things that matter to us most, do we keep a secret. And sometimes, those secrets will kill you.
(105 Straight Life)

You take a drug, right. The chemicals, they rush through your body, rush through your brain. And the sensations, you want the sensations again and again and again. But let me tell you, you can also get addicted to grief, to guilt, to hate. Cause when you feel dead inside, even bad sensations make you feel like you're alive.
(105 Straight Life)

I ain't saying drugs are good. But when your past is past and your present sucks and your future holds nothing but broken promises and dead dreams, the drugs'll kill the pain. Listen up, America. You ain't ever gonna get rid of drugs until you cure pain.
(105 Straight Life)

You wanna kill a man? Stick a shank in his chest. You wanna torture a man? Feed his loneliness. Fiend him from friendship, from peace, he will search everywhere. And when he realizes he won't find it, he will destroy himself.
(107 Plan B)

If you listen to the poets, they'll tell you that a big, bad event in someone's life changes them. If you lose the woman you love or your legs, you suddenly find a kind of beauty inside yourself. That's what they say, the poets. Truth is, you don't. After a big, bad event, you only become more of the person you already were. It's after a big, bad event that you find out the real person you always were inside.
(107 Plan B)

So, there used to be this tribe, the Aztecs, who believed that the universe is created by violence. Every year, in what was their version of Christmas, they would cut out someone's heart and offer it up to the gods. These people were convinced that without this sacrifice, the sun would fall from the sky and the world would come to an end. Then the Spaniards landed and wiped the Aztecs off the face of the earth. Turns out they was right; the world did come to an end.
(202 Ancient Tribes)

So here's the funny part: the Spaniards actually exterminated the Aztecs by accident. Yeah, they had the horses and the cannons, but they also brought over smallpox. It was the disease that finally finished the job, a disease the Spanish gave the Aztecs without even knowing. In Oz, we do what we can to survive. But ultimately, it doesn't matter. Life always gets in the way.
(202 Ancient Tribes)

Bad men have their impact too. But you gotta be really bad. Ivan the Terrible. Jack the Ripper. Adolf Hitler. Yeah, old Adolf was an evil fuck. And let's face it. Evil is the only thing that has survived intact these past thousand years.
(203 Great Men)

Now, you'd think a doctor or two would be on the top of the list of the greatest person of the millennium. I mean, doctors do research, discover diseases. But no one's gonna see Dr. Epstein-Barr, Dr. Norman-Barre, Dr. Down, and Dr. Alzheimer on any list. 'Cause for all their hard work, hearing their names fills us with dread. Their names make us sick.
(203 Great Men)

Yo, imagine being remembered for a thousand years. The things you did when you was alive reaching across time and touching the lives of people not yet born. That's a dream. That's why people write books, start religions, find cures, run for President. But me? I don't wanna be a great man. I don't care if I'm remembered for the next thousand years. All I ask is, if we pass on the street, notice me.
(203 Great Men)

Some people say the Bible is the greatest story ever told. Uh-uh. The best story is: boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl. Yeah, boy meets girl.
(204 Losing Your Appeal)

Boy meets girl. Boy loses girl. Boy gets girl. And that's the best part, right? After all that shit that's come before, the two lovers finally stare into each other's eyes and bang, the story ends. Only, what happens after boy gets down with girl? Well, he starts to get at her, she starts to get to him, boy makes girl crazy and vice versa.
(204 Losing Your Appeal)

Boy meets girl. Boy gets laid. What makes us want to fuck somebody? Is it the color of their eyes, the shape of their legs, the spike of their heels? Or is what the poets tell us, that there's something deeper. A shared loss, a longing to find someone who knows the depth of our sadness. Some people search their whole lives for that someone. Some find them, some don't. Some fool themselves into believing they're in love. And in Oz, most times, the illusion is better than the reality.
(204 Losing Your Appeal)

I am not totally sure about this one, but it's the closest I've ever gotten to feeling that someone could be Wes.

First, an explanation: I have a problem recociling the image I have of Wes with any real person I know. The same goes or Hobbie or Face, so I'm constantly on the lookout. I picture Wes as a handsome man but not in the way that he would catch your eye right away or in an intimidatingly handsome way. It's more of the average looks with something you can't quite place that makes him special, that makes women fall for him and this is mainly attributed to his charm and looks.

When watching "Oz", one of the charactes, Ryan O'Reily, a con of Irish descent (Dean Winters) caught my eye and without really knowing why, I felt that he was somewhat likeI pictured Wes although O'Reily is not like Wes at all. First of all, he has Irish ancestors which Wes doesn't. O'Reily backstabs and manipulates and is always up to something which makes him a very cool character who rarely loses his temper and always has a plan. This doesn't sound like Wes at all. The only thing the two have in common is that they are homophobes, something I don't think O'Reily could ever overcome, though. Very much unlike Wes.

Because the characters are so different and although I like O'Reily he isn't very likable, it took me some time to make the connection. I think it helps that Winters steals the scenes he is in like I'd picture Wes to do. And he is fucking handsome.

Oz

Jun. 8th, 2008 10:55 pm
I've started watching Oz because I like Harold Perrineau, J.K. Simmons, AAA and quite a few others of the actors that star in it and I heard so much about it. I knew it was set in a prison but that's all I knew. I've seen the first few episodes now and I'm blown away by how good it is. It's amazing.

None of the characters is really likable so I don't really sympathize with any of them but I am intrigued. J.K. Simmons who I love to death is incredible. He gives me the creeps and I love his storyline with Beecher for some sick reason I can't figure out. He is scary and I wouldn't want to get anywhere near me. When he burns that swastika into Beecher's ass in the first episode, I was totally shocked and couldn't believe that this was really happening because I don't think I have ever seen the theme of white supremacy explored on tv. I understand that it takes balls to write something like this and for an actor to portray it convincingly and it is fantastic.

I usually have problems with homophobia, supremacy of any kind, people trying to convert others and gangsters but I love how it is dealt with. When you first see Keane looking at Said, you know he is intrigued by the religion and you keep waiting for him to actually show interest in it and when he finally does and forsakes his gangster buddies, you feel kind of proud of him because it shows that he has grown as a character although you know that the Muslims aren't totally right themselves being homophobes but it feels right for the character and is very interesting as Jefferson Keane has a gay brother he protected earlier on and how he starts rejecting him for his new faith.

I had also expected for Harold Perrineau's part to be bigger seeing that he is the narrator and was surprised to discover that like Adawale Akinnuoye-Agbaje he is a background character and for some reason I like it. You don't get his story with him narrating it. Instead, you get the story of the other inmates with him as the all-knowing narrator which I enjoy quite a bit.

Groves, the cannibal, is a scary guy as well and I love how he decides to become a Catholic because they eat Jesus' flesh and drink his blood. And while he admits to having eaten his mother and planned to eat his dad for Thanksgiving and is okay with his cannibalism, not seeking redemption, there is a certain remorse over having killed his mother as he writes MOM on his hand.

It's also interesting that the character I hate most is the recurring governor who should be an okay guy who hasn't committed any atrocities while the inmates I can deal with.

The only thing I feel like I have to complain about: There is no way that hat would stick to Adawale Akinnuoye-Agbaje's head without falling off. NO WAY.
